Pharmacy Details & PACKMAN Defaults #

The Default page of the PACKMAN Setup screen is where you can enter and edit your pharmacy’s details.

The information about your pharmacy includes:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Approval number
  • Registration number

PACKMAN defaults that will apply to all PACKMAN profiles can be created on this screen.

When creating a new profile, these defaults are applied; however, they can be overridden for each individual profile.

Default settings can be created for the following:

  • Dosage Times – Meal headings
  • Pack Type
  • Direction
  • Print frequency
  • 7-Day Unit Dose (Expiry – Days from Printing)
  • Show Generic equivalent on 7-Day Unit Dose Header Card
  • Running Mode

To enter your pharmacy’s details & defaults:

  1. From the Options menu, choose Module Setup. The PACKMAN setup screen is displayed.
  2. Select the Defaults tab.
  3. Under Pharmacy heading, enter your pharmacy’s details.
  4. Under Dosage Times heading, type in the meal headings required for each heading.
    For example:
  5. 1 B’FAST WEEK 1
    2 LUNCH WEEK 2
    3 DINNER WEEK 3
    4 B’TIME WEEK 4

    NB: The entries in the second box will apply to Medico pak system only.

  6. Under Pack Type heading, Choose the Type required from one of the following:
    • Standard
    • Jumbo_L
    • Jumbo_N
    • Mega_L
    • Mega_N
    • 28 Day
    • UnitDose
  7. Choose either Up or Down from the Direction list.
    The direction refers to the layout on the foil of the days. That is, a direction of up will print the days so that they are printed up the page (with the later day first), while a direction of down will print the days down the page (with the later day first).
    The next profile created will use the new direction. However, it can be override on each individual profile.
  8. Choose either 7, 14 or 28 from the Frequency list.
    The frequency refers to how often the foils will be printed, in terms of days.
    The next profile created will use the new print frequency. However, it can be override on each individual profile.
  9. Under Running Mode heading, Tick the Integrated box if you have SUREfire Dispensing installed on your computer.
  10. Choose OK.

Printing Defaults #

The printing page of the PACKMAN Setup screen is where you can set defaults for printing when you completed the profile and selected to print.

To set your printing options:

  1. From the Options menu, choose Module Setup.
    The PACKMAN Setup screen is displayed.
  2. Select the Printing tab.
  3. Under Automatic Print heading, select the check boxes of the items you require to print for the following:
    • Foils
      • Print Patient’s Address on Foil Header
      • Auto Print
    • Foil Summary
    • Foil Summary [Standard Format]
    • Labels
      • Patient NH (Nursing Home) Address
      • Patient Address
      • Prescribed Drug
      • NonPacked Drug
      • Patient Allergies
      • Patient Medical Conditions
      • Foil Label
      • 7-Day Unit Dose
    • User Defined Label
    • Signing Sheets
      • Exclude Non-packed items
      • Include Patient’s Allergies
      • Include Patient’s Medical Conditions
    • Non-Packed Signing Sheets

    These options can be override on each individual profile when selected to print.

  4. Under Text Formatting, select the option describing how you want text to be treated when printing the drugs on the foils for the following:
    • Leave the drug name as it is.
    • Capitalise the first letter of every drug name
    • Capitalise every letter of drug name.
  5. Under Jumbo Foil heading, select this option if you want the patient name to appear on every bubble/blister when printing Jumbo foil.
  6. Choose OK.

Printers #

If your SUREfire Dispensing system has several computers connected in a network, each computer is allocated a unique identifying number. Settings up printers for PACKMAN involve choosing a printer to use for each printing task. The printing task includes:

  • Foils & Foil Summary
  • Signing sheets
  • Labels
  • Foil Label (i.e. Foil Header Label)
  • Reports

To set up the computer identity:

  1. From Options menu, choose Workstation Setup. The Workstation Setup screen is displayed.
  2. Select the Identity tab.
  3. Type the computer’s identifying number into the Workstation # box.
    The Computer Name and Description are automatically read from the settings in Windows.
  4. Choose OK.

If you are running PACKMAN on Windows 2000 or XP you will need to set up your printers in the Windows Printer Folder and create a form for each printer. See Printing with Windows 2000 or XP.

To set up your printers:

  1. From the Options menu, Workstation Setup. The Workstation Setup screen is displayed
Foil Printers tab #
  1. For Foil Printer, select the Foil Type from one of the following:
    • Manrex Webster-pak
    • Medico Blister Pak
    • PersoCare
  2. Under each printing task, select the printer from the Printer drop-down list.
  3. For faster printing on dot matrix printers, select the Printer Font check box and then select the font from the list.
  4. For Foil Printer, enter the following width & height (length) of the foil if required.
    For the Standard pack type uses the Width (mm) & the Height (mm) below Vert Adj & Hor Adj boxes.
    For the Jumbo pack type uses the Width (mm) & Height (mm) under the Jumbo Foil heading.
    For the Mega pack type uses the Width (mm) & Height (mm) under the Mega Foil heading.
  5. Send Before and Send After Boxes. Use these boxes to set optional special codes to send to the printer before and after the print job.

    These codes are comma-delimited strings of ASCII values and differ between printer modes. Consult your printer manual if you need to set or change them.

    See example below for an explanation of these boxes.

  6. For Foil Summary Printer, select the printer from the Printer drop-down list.
  7. Select Laser Printer check box if the selected printer is laser.
  8. If the selected printer is a dot matrix printers, select the Printer Font check box and then select the font from the list.
  9. Type the value of into Vert Adj. & Hor Adj. boxes if required.
Foil Header Label Printers tab #
  1. For Foil Header Label Printers, select the printer from the Printer drop-down list.
  2. Select Paper Size check box and select the paper size from the list if required.
  3. If the selected printer is a dot matrix printers, select the Printer Font check box and then select the font from the list.
  4. Send Before and Send After Boxes. Use these boxes to set optional special codes to send to the printer before and after the print job.

    These codes are comma-delimited strings of ASCII values and differ between printer modes. Consult your printer manual if you need to set or change them. See the example below for an explanation of these boxes.

  5. Select the Label format from Stationery drop-down list.
    For Medico’s stationery select one from the following lists:

    • PACKMAN – Medico Foil Label – Blank Dosages Heading
    • PACKMAN – Medico Foil Label – Preprinted Dosages Heading

    For Manrex’s stationery select one from the following lists:

    • PACKMAN – Manrex Foil Label
  6. Select Thermal Label (Medico) check box if you are using Medico thermal label. Select Show Patient’s Photo check box if you are required to print patient’s photo on the label.
  7. Use the Vert Adj (mm) box to align your printer to your label vertically.

    You can use both positive and negative numbers. Positive moves your printing down, negative moves it up.

  8. Use the Hor Adj (mm) box to align your printer to your label horizontally.

    You can use both positive and negative numbers. Positive moves your printing to the right, negative to the left.

  9. Use the Adj Width (%) box if the whole label is coming out too wide or too narrow.
  10. For the 7-Day Unit Dose Label Printer, select the printer from the Printer drop-down list.
  11. If the selected printer is a dot matrix printers, select the Printer Font check box and then select the font from the list.
  12. Send Before and Send After Boxes. Use these boxes to set optional special codes to send to the printer before and after the print job.

    These codes are comma-delimited strings of ASCII values and differ between printer modes. Consult your printer manual if you need to set or change them. See the example below for an explanation of these boxes.

  13. Select the Label format from Stationery drop-down list.

    For Medico stationery select ‘PACKMAN – Medico 7 Day Unit Dose’ from Stationery drop-down list.

    For Manrex stationery select ‘Manrex – 7 Day Unit Dose’ from Stationery drop-down list.

  14. Select Unit Dose Laser Header card (Manrex) check box if you are using Manrex 7-Day Unit Dose Header card.

    Select Thermal Label (Medico) check box if you are using Medico thermal label.

    Select Show Patient’s Photo check box if you want to print patient’ s photo on label.

  15. Use the Vert Adj (mm) box to align your printer to your label vertically.

Signing Sheet & Report Printers tab #
  1. For Signing Sheet Printer, select the Signing Sheet Type from one of the following:
    • Manrex Signing Sheet
    • Medico Signing Sheet
    • PersoCare Signing Sheet

    Enter the Width (mm) & the Height (Length) (mm) of the Signing Sheet if required.

  2. Select Blank A4 check box if you want your Signing Sheet to be printed on A4 blank paper Laser printer.

    Select Laser – Preprinted Form if you are using preprinted signing sheet.

  3. Send Before and Send After Boxes. Use these boxes to set optional special codes to send to the printer before and after the print job.

    These codes are comma-delimited strings of ASCII values and differ between printer modes. Consult your printer manual if you need to set or change them.

  4. For Report Printer, select the printer from Printer drop-down list.
  5. Choose OK.

Send before and Send After Boxes

For example:

Labels could use a Send After code that ejects the label far enough for you to peel the label off the backing paper, and a Send Before code that pulls it back to the proper place to start printing the next label.

To set a 1 1/4” label ejection on Microline 590 (in Epson command set mode), type 27,106,225 in the Send Before box and 27,74,225 in the Send After box.
