If the Prescription Delivery Service (PDS) or your pharmacy is temporarily offline, you can still dispense paperless ePrescriptions using owing scripts. Unlike normal owing scripts, you would do this for offline ePrescription repeats as well as for offline ePrescription originals.
These owing scripts need to be reconciled with the relevant paperless ePrescriptions when the PDS is available again.
NOTE
You must ensure that you follow the relevant state legislation and have contact the prescriber before proceeding with the offline dispensing.
Dispensing an Offline or Owing ePrescription
To dispense a paperless ePrescription when the PDS is unavailable:
1. From the Dispense screen, use the Patient lookup to select or add the patient.
2. In Date Prescribed, type O (the letter “o”) and then press Tab or Enter.
This is a quick way of specifying an owing script. You can also use the Script menu, or type the O into Repeats. Some keyboard shortcut sets also have a shortcut for owing scripts.Owing is shown in Date Prescribed.
3. Enter the prescription details as provided by or confirmed with the prescriber.
4. If you have the paperless ePrescription’s token at this point, type or scan it into the new Electronic Token field.
If you do not have this value yet, leave the Electronic Token field blank. You can enter it when reconciling the owing script with the paperless ePrescription.
The ePrescription token is also called the SCID or the DSPID.
5. Choose Dispense to finish and save the owing script.
Marking Off/Reconciling Offline or Owing ePrescriptions
To mark off/reconcile an owing script with a paperless ePrescription when the PDS becomes available:
1. Select the owing script in Patient History or the Script Organiser.
2. Do one of the following:
- Right‑click on the owing script, then choose Mark Off Owing from the context menu displayed.
- Press F2 to display the context menu, then choose Mark Off Owing.
The owing script’s details are displayed on the main screen.
3. If you entered an Electronic Token (SCID, DSPID) when dispensing the owing script, the corresponding ePrescription is automatically downloaded.
Otherwise, type or scan the paperless ePrescription’s token into the Electronic Token field, then press Tab or Enter to download the ePrescription.
4. When the ePrescription is downloaded, check the details in the ePrescription against the owing script and make any changes required.
The Date Prescribed and number of Repeats are set automatically from the ePrescription.
5. Choose Save to complete the mark off/reconciliation process.
