In the PBS Discounting section you can have three options to specify how PBS discounting is applied on scripts. The options are:
- Specifying a default co-payment discount value
- Setting a maximum discount value or,
- Setting specific rules for when discounts can be applied. You can set up to three conditions on the PBS Discounting Rule screen, all of which must be met for the rule’s discount to be applied.
To setup PBS discounting:
1. From the main menu, choose Pharmacy → Pharmacy Settings, then select the PBS Pricing tab.
2. In the PBS Discounting section do one of the following:
a. Specify a default discount value that will be applied for scripts in the Default PBS Co-Payment Discount field.
b. Set a maximum discount value in the Maximum PBS Co-Payment Discount field.
c. Click Add to set up specific discounting rules.
3. If you clicked Add, the PBS Discounting Rule window is displayed.
4. From the Area drop-down list, choose one of Patient, Drug or Script.
5. From the Property drop-down list, choose the property you want to test for the rule. Properties depend on the area selected; see <Section Below> for a full list.
6. Using the Conditions to be met drop-down list, choose the type of comparison you want to apply to the selected property. Options available depend on the property selected; some also require a comparison value:
- is – matches a specific value, e.g. a particular patient type or medical institution; select the value from the adjacent box.
- any – matches any value for the selected property, e.g. any medical institution or any account.
- contains – requires a specified text string to be present in the name of the property being checked; specify the text string in the adjacent box.
- flag is set – matches properties that are either set or not, such as a drug being highlighted or a cheapest brand.
7. If you specified a comparison condition (Is or Contains) type the required comparison value into the next field.
8. If you want to set further conditions to be checked for the rule, repeat steps 1 to 4 for each of the additional conditions.
9. In the Apply the following co-payment discount drop-down list, choose the discounting behaviour required:
- Pharmacy Default – Apply the discount according to the default value specified by the pharmacy.
- Maximum – Apply the maximum allowable PBS co-payment discount. This automatically picks up future increases to the maximum allowable co-payment discount.
- Specific – Apply the discount value entered into the adjacent box.
- None (don’t discount) – Don’t apply any co-payment discount.
10. Choose OK to save the rule.
